New in BatchCard: Klaviyo, Shopify Flow, and Gift Card Reminders

A gift card connected to Klaviyo, Shopify Flow, and reminder features in BatchCard

Creating gift cards in bulk was never the whole job. The cards still need to reach inboxes looking like your brand, go out at the right moments without you watching, and actually get spent instead of sitting forgotten in an email from three months ago. BatchCard's three newest features handle exactly that: a Klaviyo integration that sends gift card emails through your own flows, a Shopify Flow integration that creates cards automatically when things happen in your store, and expiration and balance reminders that nudge recipients before value goes to waste.

All three are on the Pro plan and above, and all three work with the batches you already create. Until now, BatchCard did one thing well: create gift cards in bulk and capture every code. That is still the core. These features sit on top of it. Here is what each one does and who it is for.

Send gift card emails through Klaviyo

You put real effort into making your store's email look like your brand. Then a gift card goes out and it looks like Shopify. If you run your email in Klaviyo, that mismatch is now optional: connect your Klaviyo account once, then choose the delivery channel for each batch. Your holiday campaign can go through Klaviyo in your full branding while everyday batches use Shopify email.

Here is how it works. For every card in a Klaviyo batch, BatchCard sends a BatchCard Gift Card Issued event into Klaviyo, carrying the code, the balance, the recipient name, and your personal message. You build a metric-triggered flow off that event and design the email in Klaviyo, with your own layout and logic. Build it once and every card you issue can use it.

One honest note worth reading before you rely on it: "Sent to Klaviyo" means Klaviyo accepted the event, not that the recipient received the email. The actual send is your Klaviyo flow's job, and Klaviyo treats flow emails as marketing by default, so a suppressed or unsubscribed recipient will not get a gift card until you mark the flow as transactional. We built the connection to be honest about that distinction rather than show a green checkmark that might not be true.

Klaviyo is available on the Pro plan and above. See the Klaviyo integration feature page for the full setup, and check pricing to compare plans.

Automate gift cards with Shopify Flow

A customer places her tenth order and deserves a thank-you. An order goes sideways and a $20 gift card would fix it. Until now, moments like these meant creating a one-off card by hand, if anyone remembered to. BatchCard now works with Shopify Flow, so those cards create themselves.

The Create gift card for customer action is the heart of it. Drop it into any Flow workflow: reward a customer after their tenth order, issue a card when someone joins a segment, or hand out a gift after a support resolution. The action creates one card for the referenced customer and returns the code, id, and balance to later steps, so you can pass them along however you need. By default it works silently, with no email to the recipient until you switch the Send gift card email toggle on. No surprise messages from a half-built workflow.

Two triggers point the other direction, telling your workflows what BatchCard just did. Batch completed fires when a batch finishes creating cards, on every outcome, so you can notify staff and branch on whether it completed, partially completed, or failed. Gift card created fires for every card linked to a customer, which makes it a clean hook for tagging a recipient or starting a thank-you sequence.

A word on email, because it is the most common place to trip up: if the Send gift card email toggle is on and a Klaviyo flow also emails on the gift card event, the recipient gets two emails. Pick one channel per workflow. The feature page walks through this.

Shopify Flow is available on the Pro plan and above, and BatchCard carries the Works with Flow badge on the Shopify App Store. See the Shopify Flow feature page for the action fields and trigger payloads.

Remind recipients before a card expires

Plenty of gift cards go unspent, not because the recipient did not want them, but because they forgot. Every forgotten card is a customer who meant to visit your store and never did. BatchCard can now remind them: an email before a card expires, or while a balance sits unredeemed, so the value turns into a sale instead of quietly going to waste.

To know when a reminder is due, BatchCard tracks card balances daily. That means a reminder reflects what a card is actually worth right now, not what it was worth when you created it. If a recipient has already spent part of the balance, the reminder respects that.

You control the reminder windows and whether reminders are on at all. They are off by default, so nothing sends until you turn them on. When you do, you can preview the email and send a test to yourself first.

Expiration and balance reminders are available on the Pro plan and above. See the reminders feature page for the settings, and the scheduling delivery guide for how BatchCard handles timed sends more broadly.

Which one is for you

  • You already run email in Klaviyo. Start with the Klaviyo integration, so gift card emails match the rest of your store's messaging.
  • You want gift cards to fire from events in your store. Shopify Flow creates cards as a workflow step and reacts the moment they exist.
  • You want more of your gift cards to get spent. Turn on reminders and let BatchCard nudge recipients before a card expires.

All three are on the Pro plan and above. If you are new to BatchCard, the fastest way to see how it fits is to try it. Install BatchCard free and create your first batch, then add the automation that matches how you work.
