Creating Gift Cards

This takes about 5 minutes.

By the end of this guide, you'll have created a batch of gift cards with custom settings for value, quantity, expiration, and notes.

Open the batch creation form

  1. Go to your Shopify admin and open BatchCard from the Apps section.
  2. Click Create Batch.

Set the batch name

  1. Enter a batch name.

Pick a descriptive name so you can find this batch later. Good examples: "Holiday Promo 2026," "Employee Rewards Q1," or "VIP Customer Appreciation." Avoid generic names like "Batch 1."

Set the quantity

  1. Enter the quantity of gift cards to create.

The quantity is the total number of individual gift card codes BatchCard will create. Each code is unique and works independently.

Set the gift card value

  1. Enter the value for each gift card in your store's currency.

Every gift card in the batch gets this same value. If you need different values within one batch, import from a spreadsheet instead.

Set an expiration date (optional)

  1. (Optional) Click Set expiration and choose a date.

Gift cards without an expiration date stay active until used. Check your local regulations before setting expiration dates, as some regions restrict or prohibit gift card expiration.

Add notes (optional)

  1. (Optional) Enter notes for this batch.

Notes are visible only to you and your staff. Use them to record context: "Purchased by ABC Corp for employee rewards" or "Campaign code: SPRING26."

Create the batch

  1. Click Create.

BatchCard creates all your gift cards. This usually takes a few seconds, even for large batches.

Result

Your batch is ready. The batch detail page shows every gift card code, its value, and its status. You can export, deliver, or manage these cards at any time.
