Updating a Whole Batch

This takes about 2 minutes.

Deactivating all cards requires the Starter plan or higher. Changing expiration on a whole batch requires the Pro plan or higher. See pricing

By the end of this guide, you'll have updated every gift card in a batch in one action, either by deactivating the cards or by changing when they expire.

Before you start

Both actions live on the batch detail page, under the More actions button.

Both become available once the batch has finished creating its gift cards. A batch that is still creating cards does not offer them yet.

Both also leave the menu once no card in the batch is still enabled. A batch you have already deactivated in full shows only the archive option.

Deactivate all cards

Deactivating is permanent and cannot be undone. Deactivated cards can never be redeemed or reactivated. Zero-balance cards in the batch are included and are deactivated too.

  1. Open BatchCard and go to Batches.
  2. Open the batch you want to update.
  3. Click More actions.
  4. Click Deactivate all cards.
  5. Wait while BatchCard refreshes card balances so the count is accurate.
  6. Review the number of cards and the remaining balance they hold, then click the confirm button.

BatchCard reads each card's balance from Shopify before it shows you those numbers, so the count and the balance you confirm are current rather than from an earlier sync. Cards in the batch that are already deactivated are skipped, and the confirmation counts them separately.

Change expiration on all cards

  1. Open the batch and click More actions.
  2. Click Change expiration.
  3. Set, shorten, extend, or remove the expiration, then click Save.
  4. If you added an expiration or shortened one, review the confirmation and click Change expiration.

Adding an expiration or shortening one opens a confirmation step first, because both can make funds unavailable sooner. Extending an expiration or removing it saves directly from the first step.

The new expiration applies to every enabled card in the batch. Cards that are already deactivated are skipped, and the confirmation counts them separately. A card that had already expired becomes redeemable again when the new expiration is in the future.

Result

You can void a whole batch of gift cards in one action, and you can set, change, or remove the expiration on every enabled card in a batch without editing them one at a time.
